Maintenance Fixes
NetVault: Backup v8.5 includes maintenance fixes to further increase stability as well as improvements to existing features such as Global Notification, Logging and Command Line Interfaces.
Security
Starting with the Encryption Plugin v2.0, the Encryption Plugin now has a Standard Algorithm Option that provides the CAST-128 algorithm. The Encryption Plugin that was bundled with NetVault: Backup v8.2 or earlier versions will still be honored and is equivalent to the Encryption Plugin Standard Algorithm Option.
The new NetVault: Backup Encryption Plugin v2.0 Standard Algorithm Option gives you greater flexibility:
- Ability to only encrypt secondary copies while primary backup remains unencrypted. This enables users to take advantage of disk-based backup to enable faster restores while the encrypted secondary copies are targeted to remote disk-based backup devices or physical tape libraries whose tapes are stored offsite for disaster recovery purposes
- Job level encryption increases flexibility by giving users control over exactly which data is encrypted and which data is not
- Expands encryption support to high availability environments by offering encryption support for:
- Clustered File System
- SQL Server Failover Clusters
- Exchange Server Single Copy Cluster (SCC) or Failover Clusters
- Exchange Server Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) environments
Enhanced Virtualization Protection
With Hyper-V Plugin v1.0, BakBone continues to deliver on its strategy of simplified data protection for virtual environments with the introduction of the NetVault: Backup Hyper-V Plugin. Hyper-V Plugin v1.0 is only supported with NVBU v8.5.
- Consolidation of virtual machine protection into a single NetVault: Backup environment to offer users simple centralized backup and recovery of virtual and physical environments from one console
- Online protection of Windows-based virtual machines running VSS aware applications such as Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint
- Ability to perform image-level backups for disaster recovery and Windows Guest OS file-level backups for faster file-level recovery
NDMP Plugin v7.1.1
NDMP Plugin v7.1.1 is now available and includes support for the following new NAS devices:
- BlueArc BOS 6.x
- ONStor 4.0.x
- NetApp ONTAP 8.0 (Mode 7)
- Hitachi HDS Essential NAS v6.0 and later
- Isilon Backup Accelerator 5.5.x
This release is only compatible with v8.5. If you need support for one of these Filers, you will have to upgrade to NVBU v8.5.
NetVault®: Backup APM for Exchange Server v4.1
NetVault: Backup APM for Exchange Server v4.1 adds a number of enhancements and fault fixes as well as new features such as:
- Additional options for LCR and CCR enabled Exchange databases
- Compatibility with the NetVault: Backup Encryption Plugin in Exchange Clustered Environments
- Compatibility with Ontrack PowerControls for individual mailbox and message recovery
Please note that Version 4.1 of the Exchange Server APM is only compatible with NetVault: Backup v8.5, so you will need to upgrade to NVBU v8.5 to take advantage of these new features.
