Impact of VMM Host Agents on VMM Services

Impact of VMM Host Agents on VMM Services

by Eric Siron

These two topics may not seem to have a lot in common, but it turns out that they live and die together. The host agent is a small service that System Center Virtual Manager installs on each managed host in order to control it. VMM’s services are pre-defined groupings of templates and guest settings that…

Record Revenue Growth for Paragon Software in 1H14 Thanks to Channel

Record Revenue Growth for Paragon Software in 1H14 Thanks to Channel

Besting last year’s number by 86% for the same period
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on 2014.08.19

Paragon Software Group announced record revenue growth for the first half of 2014, besting last year’s number by 86% for the same period.

Due primarily to this year’s launch of the company’s Pure Channel partner program, this growth is being driven by the increase in the number of new opportunities registered by partners.

In addition, the channel partners, resellers and MSPs participating in Pure Channel are experiencing close ratios of well over 40% on the almost 500 new customer opportunities passed on to them through the program.

Focused on helping resellers simplify sales cycles and achieve profitable growth, Pure Channel represents an overhaul to the company’s previous channel program. It stands out in the market because it eliminates the need for traditional revenue commitments, certifications and contracts. The program is built around Paragon Protect & Restore (PPR), the company’s industry image-based BDR product. PPR is optimized for SMB markets and designed for physical, virtual and hybrid server environments.

With Pure Channel, our goal is simple: to help our resellers and MSPs grow their businesses profitably. We’ve made it our commitment to do everything we can to be the most effective vendor on their line cards; the growth and opportunities we’ve delivered to date through the program this year – far outpacing the results of 2013 – are just the beginning,” said Tom Fedro, president, Paragon Software.

Paragon’s ‘Pure Profit’ strategy appeals to the Channel Pure Channel features a high-impact ‘Pure Profit’ strategy grounded in what Paragon calls ‘POP’ (Paragon Opportunity Protection), which eliminates minimum revenue and tech training requirements, guarantees 30% margin protection and streamlines sales cycles with the fast online deal registration and transaction processes. In addition, unlike traditional, multi-tiered partner programs, Pure Channel allows resellers and MSPs to opt into one of only two Pure Channel partner levels: Pure Platinum or Pure Gold.

Pure Channel offers value to Paragon resellers, according to Ron Belensky, corporate sales trainer and coach, MicroAge (Frontier Technology LLC): “Pure Channel not only sets up our sales team for success, but also offers a refreshing and streamlined alternative to traditional BDR partner programs.

Paragon has gone above and beyond to support our sales efforts by being easy to do business with and demonstrating their commitment to helping us reach our goals,” said Bob Ballard, president,Logisoft Computer Products, LLC. “With Paragon Software’s new Pure Channel program, it’s never been easier to register opportunities, get 30% protected margins and be more profitable selling data protection.

As part of the Pure Channel program, the company offers monthly webinars to drive partner enablement, with topics ranging from product and sales training to technical tips, business building, customer experience and more. Pure Channel also includes a number of additional go-to-market enhancements including leads, spiffs and dedicated technical support managers for select partners.

BDR Solution
In July, Paragon announced that PPR earned a 9.83 out of 10 points possible in TopTenReview’s 2014 ranking of Best Server Backup Software. In addition, PPR tied with a brand to capture the top spot in the professional support category, while also earning the highest possible ratings across three other server backup software categories including recovery and restoration, management tools and resource management.

Paragon’s Protect & Restore backup solution safeguards operations at the hit radio station Fréquence Plus

Paragon Software won the customer not only with PPR itself, but with the intensive technical support and active customer assistance it provides.

FREIBURG, Germany, August 7, 2014 –  Paragon Software Group, the technology leader in data security and data management solutions, today announces that after thoroughly examining many different backup and disaster recovery solutions, the French regional broadcast station Fréquence Plus opted for Paragon Protect & Restore (PPR) to safeguard its extensive IT infrastructure. The broadcast station with one server, 10 employees and more than twice as many PCs was looking for an image-based backup and recovery solution they could depend on. The main factor was high resource performance and extremely fast disaster recovery to make sure the station could keep broadcasting.

With its central console, concept of archiving on additional storages (second-tier or cloud storages) and superlative data security and flexible (not to mention extremely fast) system recovery, Paragon’s PPR met all of the customer’s technical requirements. However, it required a great deal of support effort to implement the backup solution in Fréquence Plus’ IT infrastructure: the implementation process was fraught with delays, since the Paragon technicians kept finding defective data blocks on various drives, and various compatibility problems meant that several updates had to be conducted first.

PPR combines backup and disaster recovery for virtual and physical servers in a single product. The solution simplifies backup and recovery processes, thus dramatically reducing downtime. All mportant systems, applications and data are safe – and are reliably managed in a single program interface. Backups are initially saved locally and can then be archived in a downstream storage location, which can either be local as well, remote on a network, or in online storage (the cloud).

Hyper-V and Networking – Part 6: Ports, Sockets, and Applications

by Eric Siron

In many ways, this particular post won’t have a great deal to do with Hyper-V itself. It will earn its place in this series by helping to clear up a common confusion point I see being posted on various Hyper-V help forums. People have problems moving traffic to or from virtual machines, and, unfortunately, spend…

Promise Vess R2000 Series Certified for XProtect Video Surveillance Management Software

Promise Vess R2000 Series Certified for XProtect Video Surveillance Management Software

Delivering 2x the performance needed for operation

This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on 2014.08.07

PROMISE Technology, Inc. announced that its Vess R2000 external storage series has been certified by Milestone Systems A/S for interoperability with XProtect video management software (VMS).

VS

XProtect is an open platform IP video surveillance. The Vess R2000 joins PROMISE’s Vess A2000 NVR appliance as XProtect tested and certified solutions – with documented performance results, optimal configurations and solution architectures.

The company offers a portfolio of video surveillance solutions certified by Milestone Systems A/S for recording servers and external storage, enabling integrators and end users to build a solution with confidence that the system will meet their performance and security needs.

The solution certification report includes performance benchmarking to allow a better understanding of how the storage solution will perform with XProtect VMS. The Vess R2000 was verified to deliver double the performance benchmark determined by the Milestone server and storage calculator for disk throughput. In addition to its throughput, the R2600’s dual controller failover functionality was tested and proven. This feature, and the storage solution, can be used as part of a larger suite of redundancy options, including RAID configurations, software-based failover and other redundant components, to provide a resilient surveillance system.

The certification testing verified that XProtect VMS and the PROMISE integrated system is scalable with several storage controller interface options, and multiple available redundancy methods to create high performance surveillance and security solutions for applications.

Additionally, the report proves that the optimal configuration for video recording and storage performance is achieved by running the Vess R2000 in its surveillance mode and placing the live database and archive database on the same physical and logical disk volume. These configurations provide the highest rate of IO/s, or R/W performance.

It is very impressive that this PROMISE Technology certification verified double the performance delivered against our Milestone benchmarks for a server and storage solution integrated with our software,” noted Trine Voss, head of the Milestone Solution partner program. “This certification provides customers with documented optimal specifications for the highest level of trust in purchasing decisions and implementations.

PROMISE has been working closely with Milestone for years to bring our customers powerful solutions they can rely on for even the most demanding security project,” said Jack Yang, senior product planning and marketing manager, PROMISE. “The solution certification for both the Vess A2000 and R2000 is very important because it provides documented results to integrators and end users that prove the quality of PROMISE’s recording servers and external storage – and helps demonstrate how optimal systems can be built with XProtect VMS.

Hyper-V and Networking – Part 7: Bindings

by Eric Siron

So far, this series has spent most of its time focused on the methods that systems use to decide where traffic should go and how it should get there. A logical next step is to discuss how bindings work. I wrote about binding order earlier. What this article will do is bring the concepts of…
