Free Script: Fixing Hyper-V Folder Security

Free Script: Fixing Hyper-V Folder Security

by Eric Siron

My standing recommendation for NTFS security when it comes to Hyper-V is: leave it alone. Unfortunately, most people don’t learn why until they’ve already broken something. It’s not fun to fix. I’ve produced a script for fixing Hyper-V folder security that should make things much easier for you. Fixing Hyper-V Folder Security – The Script…

Get Virtual Machine Last On and Off Time

Get Virtual Machine Last On and Off Time

by Jeffery Hicks

In the past I’ve written about how to identify old or obsolete virtual machines based on the time stamp of the associated VHD or VHDX file. The PowerShell techniques in that script get the job done and there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it, although it does make an assumption that you can reach the disk…

Paragon Software Unveils New Windows 8 Migration and Deployment Bundle

Backup and Disaster Recovery Leader Addresses IT Managers’ Points of Pain with Comprehensive Toolkit for Imaging and Deploying Windows 8 Machines

Irvine, Calif. (PRWEB) September 15, 2014
This is a Press Release edited by PrWeb

Paragon Software Group, a leader in data protection, backup and disaster recovery (BDR) technology, today announced a new Windows 8 Migration and Deployment bundle designed to eliminate the time and headaches associated with migrating to the Windows 8 operating system. Now available at a special promotion price through the end of September, the bundle features the Paragon Hard Disk Manager (HDM) 14 “Technician’s Edition” combined with the company’s Deployment Manager 11 offering to provide a time-saving solution for IT managers and Paragon Pure Channel partners.

The new bundle delivers powerful features, such as single push management, which allows execution of migration and deployment processes across hundreds of machines simultaneously

“IT managers constantly wrestle with the challenges of technology changes across their IT landscape, and many of them now are facing Windows 8 migration,” said Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group Corporation. “The reality is, not all Windows 8 migration and deployment tools are keeping up with today’s requirements, and that’s why we’re introducing the bundle – to give our channel partners and customers a solution that is proven to help them effectively transition to the new operating system with minimal time and effort.”
According to industry reports, Windows 8 is now running on more than 14 percent of the world’s desktop and notebook systems, and the adoption rate has been on the rise in recent months. The Paragon Windows 8 Migration and Deployment bundle addresses IT managers’ points of pain by offering an end-to end solution to their migration needs. With the industry’s most complete array of disk imaging, migration, system optimization and disk utilities, the new bundle also delivers powerful features, such as single push management, which allows execution of migration and deployment processes across hundreds of machines simultaneously.
HDM14 provides customers the ability to quickly image an existing system and deploy that image on a new or different hard disk drive, solid state disk or other Windows 8 hardware device. The bundle’s key features and functions include:

  • Copy/restore to dissimilar sector size
  • Copy or restore contents of a 512-byte hard disk to a 4k hard disk with no additional user actions
  • Automatic partition alignment
  • Separate OS and data or different types of data by splitting one partition into two different partitions of the same type and file system, thus providing for more effective data organization and safety
  • Increase free space on one partition by taking available, unallocated space from other partitions
  • Repair system boot problems due to human error, program error or a boot virus activity under Linux or WinPE
  • Successfully clone, migrate or restore a 64-bit Windows system configured to the uEFI-based boot mode
  • Fix uEFI related boot problems, and more

According to Robert DeVault, IT Supervisor with MC Assemblies, “The previous migration solution we used lacked the latest functionality and support needed to successfully image and deploy Windows 8 machines. Now, with Paragon offering us the ability to image straight from a boot disk, our migration initiative is on the fast track and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

How to Remotely Manage Hyper-V – Part1

How to Remotely Manage Hyper-V from any Windows Computer – Part 1

by Eric Siron

One of the biggest complaints about Hyper-V is the difficulty of managing it remotely. The only obvious way to do it for free is using a remote version of Windows that’s more or less matched to the target Hyper-V version. If you meet that requirement, you can follow my post on configuring Remote Server Administration…
